On the basis of WBCS cut off, candidates are selected for the posts as per preference.
Answer:
The eligibility criteria of the WBCS is prescribed by the West Bengal Public Service Commission. It states that any candidate with an Indian nationality, falling between the age group of 21 years to 36 years and holding a bachelor's degree from a recognised university is eligible to appear in the WBCS exam.
Dear candidate, the cut off list is released by the exam conducting body is based on category. For example, if you score belong to the general category and score 90 marks, but the official cut off for general category candidates is 95, you won't be able to qualify. So, before coming to any conclusion it is always suggested to view the category-wise, official cut off list.
In the WBCS exam, the commission selects candidates 20x the number of vacancies for the mains. The number of vacancies varies each year based on the requirements in various West Bengal Government Departments. Hence, candidates are advised to read the notification carefully before applying for the posts.
