Hello Priya,

If you have appeared for UPSC exams 3 times under the OBC category but do not have an OBC certificate , it might impact your eligibility for other exams where category-based reservations are provided.

However, for exams like SSC CGL and other government exams, if you do not have an OBC certificate , you will be considered under the General category . Here's what you can do:

1. SSC CGL or any government job exam:

  • General Category : Without the OBC certificate, you will have to apply as a General category candidate, meaning you won't be eligible for OBC-related reservations (age relaxation, seats).

    2. For Future Exams:

  • Obtain the OBC certificate : If you are still eligible for the OBC category in your state, try to get your OBC certificate issued. This will help you avail category-based benefits in future exams.

    Conclusion:

You can still apply for exams like SSC CGL or other government jobs, but you will have to apply under the General category due to the lack of an OBC certificate.

Hello Sai,

Yes, you can choose to apply as an Unreserved (UR) or Open category candidate in government exams like SSC CGL, NTPC, or UPSC , even if you have an ST certificate . Here’s what you need to know about this decision:

  1. Choosing Open Category : If you apply as an Open/Unreserved candidate, you will not be eligible for the reservation benefits like relaxed cutoffs, age limits, or additional attempts that ST candidates receive. Essentially, you will compete on par with candidates from the general category.

  2. Document Verification : During document verification, choosing the Unreserved category should not create a problem, provided you meet all eligibility criteria under the Unreserved category. Since you opted to compete in the Open category, the authorities will not consider your ST certificate for reservation benefits, and it should not affect your verification.

  3. Future Exams and Forms : Once you decide to apply under the Open category, it applies only to that particular exam cycle or recruitment. You can still apply as an ST candidate in future exams if you wish to use the reservation benefits, as each application cycle is independent.

    Important Considerations

  • Permanent Choice : Selecting UR/Open category on one application doesn’t permanently change your caste status or eligibility for reservation in future applications.

  • Eligibility Criteria : Ensure that you meet all Open category criteria (age, attempts, etc.) for the exam in which you apply under Unreserved.

Choosing UR in some exams while applying as ST in others is entirely up to you and is allowed. This flexibility is common in government exams in India.
