NDA Eligibility Criteria 2019 - Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has prescribed the eligibility criteria of NDA (1) 2019 in the notification. The eligibility criteria include nationality, age limit, educational qualification and physical standard. As per NDA eligibility criteria 2019, candidates must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age. Candidates having appeared or appearing in class 12 (10+2) examination are eligible to appear for NDA 2019. Male candidates who are unmarried can apply for the exam. Candidates must ensure that they fulfill all NDA eligibility criteria 2019 before applying for the exam. The written NDA examination is scheduled to be conducted on April 21, 2019.

Highlights of NDA Eligibility Criteria 2019

To be eligible, candidates must fulfil the following NDA eligibility criteria.

NDA Eligibility Criteria 2019 - Nationality

(i) a citizen of India, or

(ii) a subject of Bhutan, or

(iii) a subject of Nepal, or

(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

 (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Note: Candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) must have a certificate of eligibility in their favour issued by the Government of India. However, candidates hailing from the Gorkha region of Nepal will not require a certificate of eligibility.

NDA Eligibility Criteria 2019 - Age Limit

Candidates born not earlier than July 2, 2000, and not later than July 1, 2003. The date of birth should match the date recorded in the matriculation or higher secondary examination certificate. 

Minimum Age: 16.5 years

Maximum Age: 19.5 years

Marital Status: Only unmarried candidates are eligible to apply for NDA examination.

Eligibility Criteria of NDA 2019 - Educational Qualification 

For Army Wing of National Defence Academy - Candidates applying for admission to the Army wing of National Defence Academy should have passed Class 12.

For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy - The candidates must have passed class 12 with Physics and Mathematics conducted by State Education Board/ University. Candidates appearing in Class 12 or equivalent examination are also eligible to apply for NDA 2019. However, those appearing/ passing class 11 exams are not eligible for the exam.

Physical Standards

In order to be eligible for the posts, candidates must be physically and mentally fit. Those who have resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any training academies of armed forces are not eligible for the examination. In accordance with NDA eligibility criteria 2019, the height and weight requirements for Army and Air Force have been provided in the tables below.

NDA Eligibility Criteria 2019 - Visual Standards

The corrected distance vision of better eye must be 6/6 and that of the worse eye should be 6/9. Myopia should not be more than -2.5D including astigmatism and manifest hypermetropia must not be more than +3.5D including astigmatism. Internal examination of both eyes will also be done by means of ophthalmoscope to rule out diseases of the eye. Candidates should also have good binocular vision. Colour vision standard for the exam is CP-III (Defective Safe). Candidates must be able to recognize white, signal red and signal green colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at a distance of 1.5 meters or read requisite plate of Ishihara Book/Tokyo Medical College Book. Candidates undergoing Radial Keratotomy to improve visual acuity and/or Laser Surgery to correct refractive error will be permanently rejected for all services of the exam.

Thigh length

Upto 64.00 cm

Sitting height

81.50 cm - 96.00 cm

The minimum acceptable height is 157 cm for Army, Navy and Naval Academy while 162.5 cm for Air Force. For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North-Eastern, the minimum acceptable heights will be 5 cm less.
