About OPSC Judicial Services Exam 2023

The Odisha Public Service Commission closed the OPSC application form 2023 on April 20, 2024. The OPSC application form was released on March 20, 2024. The Commission will conduct the OPSC Judicial Service Prelims exam on June 23, 2024. The OPSC Judicial Service notification 2023 was released on the official website on March 3, 3024. The notification announced a total of 34 vacancies with 11 vacancies reserved for women candidates.

The Odisha Public Service Commission, better known as OPSC conducts the Judicial Services Examination. The Commission has released the notification for the exam in online mode on the official website. OPSC Judicial Examination is held in three stages consisting of preliminary written exam, main written exam followed by the final interview round.

The Odisha Public Service Commission has provided the eligibility criteria of Odisha Judicial Services Examination 2023. The OPSC Judicial Services 2023 eligibility criteria that all aspirants need to meet is as under-

  • Candidates must be a citizen of India.

  • Age limit- Minimum: 23 Years, Maximum: 35 Years. Upper age relaxation is applicable to the candidates belonging to reserved categories as per the norms mentioned in the official OPSC Civil Judicial Notification 2023 Notification.

  • Educational Qualification: Being a graduate in Law of a University or Institution recognized by the Government is a must.

    Other Eligibility Parameters-As per other eligibility parameters of OPSC Judicial services exam 2023, a candidate must:
  • Be of good character and of sound health, free from any organic defect and physical infirmity. If found unfit during the medical examination, he/she not be appointed.

  • Be able to speak, read and write Odia fluently, and must have passed an examination in Odia language equivalent to that of Middle English School standard (i.e. Class/Standard-VII) within the last date.

  • Not have more than one spouse living.

Odisha Public Service Commission released the OPSC application form online on March 20, 2024 and closed it on April 20, 2024. Candidates must first ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria and then progress towards filling the application form of OPSC Judicial Services Examination 2023. Candidates must note that they can only register in online mode for admission to the OJS preliminary written examination. 

An application fee of Rs.300 must be paid at any branch of State Bank of India. printout of the finally submitted online application form for future use and take a printout of online challan (Pay-in-Slip). Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe of Odisha and persons with disability (PWD) whose disability is more than 40 per cent are exempted from payment of this fee.

After the result of the main written examination, qualifying candidates will be required to submit the printout/hard copy of OPSC online application form, along with the photocopies of the other documents.

Preliminary Exam

The recruitment to the Cadre of Civil Judges shall be made by the Odisha Public Service Commission through a competitive examination which shall consist of three parts; namely-preliminary written examination, main written examination and interview in the manner provided in the rules and in accordance with the syllabus as specified. 

As per the OPSC Judicial Services 2023 exam pattern of the preliminary written exam, the test will carry 100 marks. The total duration of the exam will be one and half hours. As per OPSC Judicial Services exam pattern, candidates will be asked 200 objective type questions of multiple choice where each question will carry one mark each. There will be negative marks of twenty-five percent of the marks allotted to a question for every wrong answer. Candidates will be given OMR answer sheets to answer which will be evaluated by computer.

The exam pattern of Preliminary OPSC Judicial Services 2023 will cover the following topics:

  1. Constitution of India;

  2. Code of Civil Procedure;    

  3. Code of Criminal Procedure;

  4. Evidence Act;

  5. Indian Penal Code;

  6. Limitation Act;

  7. Transfer of Property Act;

  8. Contract Act;

  9. Law of Succession (Indian Succession Act and Hindu Succession Act);

  10. Specific Relief Act.

The Commission shall only call the candidates for main written examination who secure not less than 35 per cent of marks in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and 40 per cent marks in case of others in the preliminary written examination. 

Main Exam

As per the OPSC Judicial Services 2023 exam pattern of the main written examination, the exam shall have two compulsory papers and three optional papers. Each of the compulsory papers will carry 150 marks with a duration of two and half hours. Each of the optional papers of OPSC Judicial Services mains 2022 shall carry 150 marks with a duration of three hours.        

As per exam pattern of OPSC Judicial Services 2023, Paper 1 will be based on General English and shall cover the following topics:

  1. Translation and retranslation of ten lines each having two passages, i.e. one in English to be translated into Odia and another in Odia to be retranslated into English.

  2. A short essay of about 150 words

  3. Precis writing consisting of 300 words

  4. One passage of about 500 words with five questions

Paper 2 of OPSC Judicial Services 2023 mains will be based on Procedural Laws and shall cover the following topics:

  1. The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973

  2. The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908

  3. The Indian Evidence Act, 1872

The optional papers of OPSC Judicial Services 2023 mains will have 150 marks each. Candidates may choose any of the three subjects among the following:

(i) Law of Crime & Law of Torts:

  1. Hindu  Law

  2. Mohammedan Law

(iii) Law of Property:    

  1. Transfer of property Act, 1882

  2. Specific Relief Act, 1963.

  3. Indian Limitation Act, 1963

(iv)    Law of Contract:

  1. Indian Contract Act, 1872.

  2. Sales of Goods Act, 1930

  3. Partnership Act, 1932.

  4. Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881

(v)    Jurisprudence and Constitution of India

Candidates shall answer the papers in English unless otherwise directed.

 The standard of all papers shall be that of LL.B. course but in respect of compulsory Paper-I, it shall be that of a degree course. OPSC will invite candidates for interview who have secured not less than 45 per cent of marks in aggregate and a minimum of 33 per cent marks in each paper in the main written examination.

The three Optional Subjects must be selected from the dropdown box of the online application form submitted for the preliminary written examination, failing which his/her application will be rejected. No correspondence on the same will be entertained.

                                Preliminary Exam

                                Odisha Judicial Services Examination Admit Card 2023 – Preliminary Exam Call Letter is issued by Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). It is issued to candidates who successfully registered for the exam by filling the application form of OPSC Judicial Services. The admit card of preliminary exam is also referred to as admission certificate and will be uploaded on the website of the Commission.

                                Candidates must download their admission certificate along with "Instructions to candidates" from the website of OPSC and produce the same before the Centre Supervisor/Invigilator for admission to the examination hall. No candidate will be admitted to the examination hall without the possession of their OPSC Judicial Services 2023 admit card.

                                Main Exam

                                Odisha Judicial Services Examination Admit Card 2023 – Mains Exam Call Letter will be issued by Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). It will be issued to the candidates who appeared for the preliminary exam of OPSC Judicial Services. The OPSC Judicial Services 2023 admit card of mains is also referred to as admission certificate and will be uploaded on the website of the Commission. Candidates must download their admission certificate and produce the same before the Centre Supervisor/Invigilator for admission to the examination hall. 

                                No candidate will be allowed to write the mains without the possession of their OPSC Judicial Services 2023 admit card. The candidates are required to download their admission certificate/intimation letter from the official website of OPSC. The OPSC Judicial Services 2023 admit card will contain details like candidate’s name, exam venue, test date, name of the papers amongst other details.

                                The answer key of OPSC Judicial Services 2023 exam is released in pdf format. Candidates can directly download the answer key on the official website by clicking on the relevant link. OPSC Judicial Services answer key contains question IDs of different sets and their correct answer IDs. Candidates can check their answers against those provided in the answer key to determine their probable score.

                                Preliminary Exam

                                The OPSC Judicial Services result of preliminary will be declared by OPSC. Odisha Judicial Services preliminary examination result 2023 can be viewed in online mode and downloaded by the candidates in the form of PDF. The PDF comprises the roll numbers of shortlisted candidates.

                                 It must be noted that OPSC shall call the candidates for main written examination who have secured not less than 35 per cent of marks in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and 40 per cent marks in case of others in the preliminary written examination.

                                Main Exam

                                The OPSC Judicial services Main Exam result 2023 will be declared after the exam has been successfully conducted. The final merit list containing the OPSC Mains 2023 result is expected to be released on the official website of OPSC after a month of the exam. The Commission shall call those candidates for the next round, i.e. personal interview, who have secured minimum 45 per cent marks in aggregate and a minimum of 33 per cent of marks in each paper in the main written examination.

                                OPSC main exam result 2023 can be viewed in online mode and downloaded by the candidates in the form of PDF. This PDF comprises of details such as name, registration id, roll number etc.          

                                After declaration of OPSC Mains 2023 result, the candidate who qualify, will be required to submit the printout/hard copy of online application form, along with the photocopies of the other documents as stated. 

                                The OPSC Judicial Service cut off marks will be will be released in online mode on the official website only. Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks to get shortlisted. The OPSC JS cut off will be released all the categories. The OPSC Judicial Service cutoff will be released along with result.

                                Odisha Public Service Commission Judicial Services Exam prescribed the OPSC Judicial Service selection process 2023 on the official notification. As per the OPSC Judicial Service selection process, there are three stages - prelims exam, mains exam and interview. Candidates must qualify all the stages to get recruited.

                                Main Exam

                                The final round of the OPSC Judicial Services Exam selection process is the interview round. After the two stages of written examinations (preliminary and mains), shortlisted candidates will be called by the Board for personal interview. The OPSC Judicial Services Interview 2023 shall carry 100 marks. Questions to be asked in the interview are usually not outside the syllabus prescribed for the main written examination. In the interview, questions covering broad national and international issues and matters of common interest in the field of Arts and Science could also be asked.

                                The names of the candidates shall not be included in the merit list unless they secure a minimum of 40 per cent marks in the interview. Only these candidates who satisfy the minimum score criteria in the mains will be called for the selection process of OPSC Judicial Services Examination 2023. 

                                Candidates who will qualify in the OJS main written examination are required to submit printout/hard copy of the online application form along with the true copies of the following documents duly attested by gazetted officer or Notary Public or self attested, failing which their candidature shall stand rejected. Each document should mention "submitted by me" along with candidate’s full signature on the same. Original certificates must not be attached to the applications. Those candidates who are called for the interview will be required to bring with them the original certificates of the attested copies sent earlier, for verification, failing which they will not be allowed to appear at the interview.

                                Certificates/Documents to carry for Interview round of OPSC Judicial Services 2023

                                1. H.S.C. or equivalent certificate showing date of birth issued by the concerned Board/Council;

                                2. +2/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate issued by the concerned Board/ Council;

                                3. Bachelor's degree of Law Certificate issued by the concerned University;

                                4. All mark lists in support of LL.B examination issued by the concerned University;

                                5. Original Challan (OPSC Copy) showing payment of examination fees;

                                6. Odia test pass certificate from the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha or any other Board or Council of Secondary Education approved by the Government of Odisha in support of passing of Odia language test equivalent to M.E. School standard, if not passed H.S.C. or equivalent examination having Odia as one of the subjects;
