West Bengal College Service Commission released the WBSET exam date 2024 in online mode on July 12, 2024. The WBSET 2024 exam is proposed to be conducted on December 15, 2024. Detailed notification is expected to be released soon on the official website at wbcsconline.in.
West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) conducts West Bengal State Eligibility Test (WB SET) every year in offline mode for the post of Assistant Professor across the in Universities and Colleges of West Bengal only. The exam is held in 30 subjects for 2 papers – Paper I and Paper II. Selection of candidates is made on the basis of their aggregate marks in both the papers taken together. Top 6% of the appeared candidates in both the papers of WB SET with at least 40% marks (General category) and minimum 35% marks (SC/ST/PWD/Transgenders) are considered qualified for the eligibility to be Assistant Professors.

General category candidates with minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) in Masters OR equivalent exam from recognized Universities/Institutions and reserved category candidates (Other Backward Classes(OBC-NCL)/Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/persons with disability (PWD)/Transgenders with at least 50% marks (without rounding off) are eligible to apply.
Candidates pursuing Masters or equivalent or are in the final year and whose result is awaited or candidates with delayed qualifying exams can also apply. However, such candidates will be considered eligible for Assistant Professor only if they pass their Masters OR equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories and transgenders). These candidates have to complete their Masters or equivalent exam within 2 years from the date of WB SET result with the required percentage.
PhD degree holders whose Masters had been completed by September 19, 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) will get a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks. The qualifying marks for such candidates will be 50%.
Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only or if the name of the subject differs in the list of subjects, then they can appear for a related subject.
Candidates with post-graduate certificate/diploma from an Indian University/Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate from any foreign University/institute must ascertain that their diploma/degree/certificate is equivalent to the Masters degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. Such candidates can also apply for WB SET.
WB SET Eligibility Criteria - Exemption
Candidates passed UGC/CSIR JRF exam before 1989 need not to take NET/WB SET.
Candidates having cleared WB SET accredited by UGC held before June 1, 2002 are eligible to apply for Assistant Professors across India. For SET conducted from June 1, 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates can apply for the post of Assistant Professors only in the Universities/Colleges situated in the respective state only (from where they have qualified SET exam).

Fill the Application Form
Candidates have to start with the filling particulars like exam details, personal details, qualification details and uploading the required documents at the very first stage of WB SET application form. If the data entered is correct, candidates have to click on submit button, which will take them to the next stage of the application procedure.
Upload Photograph & Signature
After candidates would have entered all the details in the respective columns, they have to move to the next stage which is to upload their photograph and signature in the prescribed format and dimension.
Preview Particulars
Once all the required details are entered and photograph and signature uploaded correctly, candidates have to the option to preview the application form. This stage is important from the perspective of correcting any detail or pictures, etc. in case not correct. Candidates must ensure that all the details required are correct. While previewing, candidates can make chances/corrections if required. Click on submit to move to the next stage.
The registration process will get completed here with the system generating a registration number and a password for candidates. Keep the same for future references. These details will also be sent to to the candidates via email.
Fee Payment
For fee payment, candidates will have three options – “PAY NOW”, “DOWNLOAD CHALLAN” and “PAY LATER & EXIT”. Candidates have to opt for any option as per their comfort. For online payment, candidates have to pay through Credit Card, Debit Card and Internet Banking. While paying through challan, candidates have to take a print-out of the challan and pay in cash at any branch of United Bank of India. However, payment via challan can only be done only after two banking days (after generation of challan), including Bank charges of Rs. 48. For online payment, the additional processing charges have to be paid by the candidates.

WB SET exam will have 2 papers – paper I and paper II. Both the papers are compulsory and will be held separately in 2 sessions, in offline mode. Paper 1 is held for 1 hour wherein candidates have to answer 50 objective type questions. Each correct answer will get 2 marks. There is no negative marking in WB SET. The questions in Paper I will be general in nature, intended to assess the teaching, research aptitude of the candidate. Paper I questions are designed to test reasoning ability, divergent thinking, comprehension, and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper II of WB SET will have 100 questions which need to be answered in 2 hours. All questions are compulsory and candidates will get 2 marks for each correct answer. Like Paper I, Paper II will also not have any negative marking and will be held in offline mode. Questions in this paper will be asked from the subject which candidates have opted for.

The exam authority will release the WB SET admit card in online mode on the official website. Candidates can download the WB SET admit card on or before the last date. Only those candidates who had submitted the application form correctly for the exam within the given time frame will be able to download their admit card. Candidates have to download their admit card of WB SET by entering their required credentials on the login page.
The admit card will not be sent to any candidate via post or any other means. They only had to download it online. After downloading, candidates have to ensure that all information given on it is correct. WB SET admit card is to be carried to the respective examination centre or else candidates will not be permitted to take the exam or enter the examination hall.
How to download WB SET Admit Card
Any type of correction in the admit card was done after verification of attendance sheet and id proof of the candidate during the examination.
WB SET 2024 answer key will be released by the examination authority. The answer key of WB SET carries correct answer options of all the questions asked in the paper I and paper II. The answer key has come combined in one file and candidates must check the answer key for the paper they have appeared in. The answer key gives an idea to the candidates to calculate their probable scores in the exam.
How to download WB SET Answer key
WB SET 2024 result will be released in online mode on the official website. Candidates can check their result by entering their user name of WB SET and password in the login window. As per WBCSC, top 6% of the candidates taking the test (in both papers) and securing minimum 40% aggregate marks (General Category) in paper I and II be taken together for qualifying in the exam. Reserved category candidates need to obtain at least 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together will be declared qualified for eligibility to be Assistant Professor.

There are two types of cut offs of WB SET – one is the minimum qualifying marks and the other one is the subject-wise and category-wise cut off percentage. As per the qualifying criteria, the top 6% of the candidates who have taken both the papers and have secured 40% or above (General category) will be considered eligible for Assistant Professorship. For reserved categories, the qualifying criteria is 35% aggregate marks in Paper I and II taken together.
WBCSC will also release subject-wise and category-wise cut off percentage of WB SET. Candidates have to check the cut off online by entering the required credentials. The cut off of WB SET will be different for each subject, as per the different categories of the candidates.

There are two types of cut off for wbset exam . One is category cut off and other is aubject wise cut off. The category wise cut off for gen is 40% and sc/st/phw is 35%. The students who qualify both cut offs are qualified. The factors determining cut off are.
1. Number of vacancies
2. Exam difficulty.
3.Number of candidates appeared.
