SCRA was conducted by UPSC for selection of candidates for appointment as Special Class Apprentices in Mechanical Department of Indian Railways. From 2016, the exam has been discontinued by UPSC.

Indian Railways has discontinued Special Class Railway Apperentice Examination (SCRA). The examination was conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). 

Hi Ashutosh, UPSC has ceased to conduct SCRA examinations. IES and CSE (Allied posts in Group A) are the alternatives right now. However, SCRA was the examination conducted for class 12th (appearing or passed) students. One has to be graduate or in the last year of graduation to sit for the other two.

I am sorry to say this but SCRA examinations are closed.Since the Indian Government and Indian railways are facing financial issues for conducting both UPSC and SCRA 2 times a year for posts of the same post and with SCRA having fewer applicants the government decided to stop the examination.The last SCRA examination was held in the year 2016-17

Yes, it has been cancelled by UPSC.

SCRA was earlier conducted by UPSC, for the selection of higher railway officials but now UPSC has stopped conducting it and now the selection only done on a promotional level

UPSC SCRA 2018 Notification: Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA ) is  an exam conducted  by UPSC carried out  for Special Class Railway Apprentices or SCRA. The well-known examination is held every year so that candidates can be selected for appointments as Special Class Apprentices into Mechanical Engineering Department within Indian Railways.

SCRA was a great opportunity after 12th science as a carrier. But I've to tell you that this Exam has been closed by the RAILWAY OF INDIA few years back. Unluckily the conduction of Exam has stopped . There are still plenty of opportunity in the Railways . You can prepare for them . All the best!
