Combined Defence Services Examination
Hello Aspirant,
The Union Public Service Commission conducts Combined Defence Services exam twice a year. Through this exam candidates are recruited as officers in the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force.
Candidates appearing for this exam are supposed to be aware of following subjects -
*General Knowledge - Current affairs (past few months), history, polity, geography, basic science
*English - Basic grammar, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension solving,. Error spotting, Para Jumbles etc.
*Elementary Math Syllabus : Natural numbers, percentage, HCF LCM, Geometry, Log, Trignometry etc.
(Written exam of OTA consists of only 2 tests GK and English)
Selection is done one the basis of written exam, SSB/Interview, personality test, Document Verification, Medical Examination.
The merit list is prepared for students who obtain good marks in written examination as well as SSB interview. Final selection is based in medical fitness.

You can always prepare for any other exams if you are passionate and hard working. Since both the exams CDS and CSE are conducted by UPSC, the syllabus are most likely same and you have to do less hard work than the other aspirants.
But the time for preparation is also a thing. Generally, army officers are only given 60 days of leave in a year and only 20 days of casual leave excluding sick leaves.
There will be nothing like to give someone leave for the preparation of the examination.

The Vision standard for Army candidates is mentioned below :
Distance vision ( corrected) - better eye: 6/6
Worse eye: 6/9
Myopia not more than -2.5d including astigmatism and Manifest.
Hypermetropia not more than +3.5d including astigmatism.
binocular vision- III
- For Air Force:
Candidates who habitually wear spectacles are not eligible for Air force.
Minimum distant vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other. ( correctable to 6/6,but only for hyoermetropia)
Near vision must be N-5 in each eye.
- For Indian Navy :
Corrected with glass : 6/6
Uncorrected without glass: 6/12
Limit of Myopia: -1.5
Limit of Hypermetropia- +1.5
So, if you have a weak eyesight beyojnd this vision limits, then you cannot join the Indian Air force. however, you can correct your eye vision with help of some good doctor.

The eyesight requirements is different for different branches
The eyesight requirements for ground duty technician branches are :-
The Maximum limit of refractive error
Hypermetropia +3.5 D
Myopia -3. 5 D
Astigmatism -2. 5D and + 2.5D
Virtual Acuity error :-
Corrections virtual Acuity should be 6/9 in each eye and wearing Glasses will be Compulsory when adviced.
For flying branch
Candidate who wear glasses are nit eligible for flying branch.
Minimum distant vision 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in another correctable for 6/6 for hypermetropia.
Hypermetropia +2.0 D
Myopia Nil
Astigmatism 0.75 D

For IMA —not earlier than 2nd January 1999 and not later than 1st january 2004
For INA —not earlier than 2nd January 1999 and not later than 1st january 2004

Hope you are doing great as per the question asked by you, yes you can certainly give N.D.A ( National Defence Academy ) exam without O.B.C N.C.L certificate also you can certainly apply for general category as you will not be eligible for any category admissions and will be treated as general candidate only.

In Part 1 application of Combined Defence Service Examination you need to fill Educational Qualification Details. As you have passed B.E Mechanical you need to select passed/Appeared/Appearing the final year of Engineering degree examination that is option two. Option one is for those candidates who have passed/Appeared/Appearing in the final year degree (any discipline) or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level. Option is for those candidates who have Passed/Appeared/Appearing the final year degree or equivalent examination with any subjects/disciplines other than the above mentioned degree.
