To become an IAS,  you should appear for the UPSC CS examination, which has three stages. Before that, there are certain eligibility criteria. One should have a bachelor's degree and should be 21 years of age. This bachelor's degree can be in any stream from the approved colleges.

UPSC exam pattern for IAS is conducted in three stages. To become an IAS, you have to pass all the stages with higher ranks.

PRELIMS:

Paper 1: consist of history, geography, political science, economics and current affairs. This paper carries 200 marks.
