Question : Rubi goes to a multiplex at a speed of 3 km/h to see a movie and reaches 5 minutes late. If she travels at the speed of 4 km/h she reaches 5 minutes early, then the distance of the multiplex from her starting point is:

Option 1: 2 km

Option 2: 5 km

Option 3: 2 metres

Option 4: 5 metres

Team Careers360 27th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: 2 km

Solution : Let the distance be $x$ km.
According to the question,
Speed = $\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text {Time}}$
$\frac{x}{3}–\frac{x}{4}=\frac{5+5}{60}$
⇒ $x=2$
Hence, the correct answer is 2 km.

Question : The bar graph given below shows the percentage distribution of the total production of six different types of cars by a car manufacturing company over 2 years.

If 75% of the T-type cars produced each year were sold by the company, how many T-type cars remain unsold?

Option 1: 23500

Option 2: 22000

Option 3: 24125

Option 4: 25000

Team Careers360 26th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: 24125

Solution : According to the question, 75% of the T-type cars are sold.
Now, if 75% of the T-type cars produced each year were sold by the company, the number of T-type cars remain unsold
= 350000 $\times$ (90 – 75)% $\times$ (100 – 75)% $+$ 440000

Question : If, $\frac{r}{13}+\frac{13}{r}=1$, then the value of $r^3$ is:

Option 1: –2157

Option 2: 2197

Option 3: 2157

Option 4: –2197

Team Careers360 26th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: –2197

Solution : $\frac{r}{13}+\frac{13}{r}=1$
We know that if $x+\frac{1}{x} = 1$, then $x^3 = -1$
Let $\frac{r}{13} = x$
The equation becomes,
$x+\frac{1}{x} = 1$
⇒ $x^2-x+1=0$
$x^3+1^3=(x+1) (x^2-x+1)$
⇒ $x^3+1^3 =0$
⇒ $x^3 = -1$
⇒ $(\frac{r}{13})^3 = -1$
⇒ $r^3 = -2197$
Hence, the correct answer

Option 1: 20

Option 2: 25

Option 3: 28

Option 4: 24

Question : The distance between two places A and B is 60 km. Two cars start at the same time from A and B, travelling at speeds of 35 km/h and 25 km/h, respectively. If the cars run in the same direction, then they will meet after how many hours?

Option 1: 6.5

Option 2: 6.2

Option 3: 6

Option 4: 6.52

Team Careers360 26th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: 6

Solution : The car runs in the same direction. So, the relative speed is (35 – 25) = 10 km/h.
Use the formula, $\text{Time}=\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{speed}}$ to find the required time that two cars take to meet.
${\text{Time}}=\frac{60}{10}=6$ hours
Hence, the correct answer is 6 hours.

Question : Comprehension:

Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.

The Roman Empire covered a vast stretch of territory that included most of Europe as we know it today and a large part of the Fertile Crescent and North Africa.
The Roman Empire embraced a wealth of local cultures and languages; women had a stronger legal position then than they do in many countries today; but also that much of the economy was run on slave labor, denying freedom to substantial numbers of persons. From the fifth century onwards, the empire fell apart in the west but remained intact and exceptionally prosperous in its eastern half.
Roman historians have a rich collection of sources to go on, which we can broadly divide into three groups: (a) texts, (b) documents and (c) material remains. Textual sources include letters, speeches, sermons, laws, and histories of the period written by contemporaries. These were usually called ‘Annals’ because the narrative was constructed on a year-by-year basis. Documentary sources include mainly inscriptions and papyri. Inscriptions were usually cut on stone, so a large number survived, in both Greek and Latin. The ‘papyrus’ was a reed-like plant that grew along the banks of the Nile in Egypt and was processed to produce sheets of writing material that was very widely used in everyday life. Thousands of contracts, accounts, letters, and official documents survive ‘on papyrus’ and have been published by scholars who are called ‘papyrologists’. Material remains include a very wide assortment of items that mainly archaeologists discover (for example, through excavation and field survey), for example, buildings, monuments and other kinds of structures, pottery, coins, mosaics, and even entire landscapes. Each of these sources can only tell us just so much about the past, and combining them can be a fruitful exercise, but how well this is done depends on the historian’s skill!
