Hello,

In order to appear for UPSC you just need to be 21 years old and passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you can apply even in your final year. UPSC doesn't discriminate among aspirants and hence allow people from all background to appear for this exam.

UPSC Civil Service Exam consists of three level-

Preliminary
Mains
Interview

Preliminary numbers are not added in the final list, you just need to score the required cut offs against your category. It mainly consists of GS Paper-I consists of the following topic such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally,
General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change.

and CSAT includes topics such as basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills. Both consists of 200 marks, MCQs based. Prelims is mcq based, but still it requires knowledge coupled with speed.

Mains is more of a subjective type, one needs to write answer for Four General Studies Paper(GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society, GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations, GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management, GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude),Two Optionals, One Essay, two language paper, there are total nine papers here. 250 marks for each paper, total is 1750 marks followed by Personality Test of 275 marks.

Now,coming to your question pursuing BA Political Scienece(Hons) fulfill the basic eligibility to appear for UPSC, you need to qualify prelims, mains as well interview, eventually it's your preparation and strategy that will sail you through this. If you're pursuing graduation, then the biggest advantage you've right now is time, and if you use it wisely, you'll succeed in your very first attempt. Just to give you example, there are lot of people who have pursued graduation in similar discipline to yours and have succeeded, so there's no reason why you shouldn't. The toughest thing about UPSC is perseverance, because it's one year of preparation and another year of appearing for the exam, it's not going to be an easy journey, there will be moments of doubts and anxiety, you've to fight your battle and you can only succeed if there's immense drive within you. Your reason to appear has to be really strong because that's what going to help you never give up on your dreams in the first place. Achieving the top post will entirely depend upon how you fare well in the examination, mains and interview as prelims is only qualifying in nature.

You can go through the gradual steps as mentioned below in order to start your preparation for UPSC:

Be well acquainted with UPSC Syllabus, learn it by heart, that's the most crucial step to crack this exam, to know what to read and what to skip. In addition to this, never ever make a differentiation between prelims and mains, what I mean is do not prepare separately for each, because nowadays what's happening is even in prelims, UPSC frame questions based on Mains syllabus, So, the first towards preparation shall be a combined preparation for both.

Read any newspaper like The Hindu, or Indian Express on a regular basis to be updated as well as gaining knowledge which shall be highly useful to you in future exam preparation part.

Start with basics, for each subject, you can do with NCERTs for this.

As you progress, move on to other relevant books, keep your resources minimum like Polity by Laxmikanth, History of Modern India by Bipin Chandra etc.

Start practicing answer writing in advance, even in a little way, writing mains is a huge task for nine paper, it requires immense practice along with knowledge.

Practice previous year question paper which you can get from the site of UPSC,in addition mock papers, and test series which you can get it from any of the sites extensively dedicated to UPSC, , it's highly important to evaluate your performance while doing so.

Shubham, IAS recruitment is through UPSC examination and UPSC is held at 3 stages. Prelims, Mains and Final Round of Interview.

UPSC Prelims has 2 papers. Paper 1 covers Current Events, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and   Social Development, General Issues on Environmental ecology, General Science.

Paper 2 covers Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, logical reasoning and analytical ability, decision making and problem solving, General Mental Ability and basic numeracy numbers.

If you look at the topics, these are based on what you have studied in your 10th and 12th. So while studying B.Tech, you also have to study your 10th and 12th books for Paper 1. please give me detail information about facilities of IAS officer and please tell me IAS officer have chance to studying abroad. if yes then give me information .

Harshit sethi 19th Mar, 2020
  1. IAS officers are entitled to a duplex bungalow in a (VVIP) restricted zone of the state capital they are deployed in. This benefit is enjoyed by them irrespective of their posting in any some other district/commissionerate or the Headquarters. A rent free accommodation is given to the Officer where he has to pay 1200-2000 per month that is like nothing or free. ALONG with the big house he is also given with gardeners, cooks and house helpers by the government.
  2. The electricity bill of IAS officer house is paid by the government. In the era of so costly electricity he can run free electricity without any tension of its bill.
  3. A vehicle is provided to the IAS officer for official and personal use. Yes, one should not use official vehicle for their personal use, but somehow it is fine to use it .
  4. Officers are provided with security guards for themselves and even their family. In case of a life threat, they can even get STF commandoes for their protection.
  5. officers can also go for study leaves for 2 years. They can even undergo courses at reputed foreign universities. The cost of such courses will be undertaken by the government. Of course, there are restrictions on this facility. Only officers who have completed 7 years of service (6 years for North-East Cadres) are allowed this facility. They should also sign a bond that they would serve the government in their capacity as IAS officers for a certain number of years after they return.

Hope it helps.
