i completed upsc preparation in my b.tech shall i take campus interview or ias exam or both

rehan18alam Student Expert 18th May, 2020

Dear aspirant,

Never forsakeyour campus interview for any other thing always keep a job as a backup in case you are not able to do well in the exam which you want to give.

having a job as a backup is a plus point. If respective of the exam you are going for as enjoy the learning experience will be wide and can be used in many other places like CAT exam.

In your case if you prepare for the exam then you must go for both the exam and the interviews get one job as a backup and keep your focus on exam preparation.

Thank you.

I want to be an IAS.So what is the best way or the best app to preparing.

pdwords Student Expert 17th May, 2020
Hello,

You can go through the following steps in order to initiate your UPSC preparation;

Be well acquainted with UPSC Syllabus,learn it by heart this is the first and most important step to crack this exam, to know what to read and what to skip.

Have an integrated approach for both Preliminary and Mains while preparing, never ever make a differentiation between prelims and mains, because nowadays what's happening is even in prelims, UPSC frame questions based on Mains syllabus.

Make a timetable,set targets on a daily,weekly and monthly basis,that's the only way to complete this extensive syllabus.

Another equally important thing is to start reading any newspaper like The Hindu, or Indian Express on a regular basis to be updated as well as gaining knowledge which shall be highly useful to you in future exam preparation part. Put a more emphasis on editorial part, it will not only broaden your perspective but help a lot in answer writing,and make sure whatever opinion you form it should be well balanced. You can also make notes of this,it'll be very useful in answer writing.

When it comes to reading books ,start with basics, for each subject, you can do with NCERTs for this. This will build your foundation strong,as you progress, move on to other relevant books as mentioned below;

For Prelims, refer the following books:

History ;

NCERT Class XI and XII
India's Struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra
For Indian Culture, refer art and culture by Nitin Singhania

Geography ;

NCERT Class VI to XII
GC Leong's Physical Geography
World Atlas

Economics ;

NCERT Class XI
Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh

International Relations & Polity ;

NCERT XII Political Science with current affairs
Indian Polity by Laxmikanth

CSAT ;

Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Agarwal
M Tyra's Quicker Maths

Coming to Mains Exam, you can refer the following books for four General Studies Paper;

GS I - For History , Class XI NCERT book with India's struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra,India after Independence by Bipan Chandra,History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra

For Geography refer World Geography and Geography of India by Majid Hussain, GC Leong's Physical and Human Geography with NCERT Class XI book.

For GS II - Polity and International Relations , refer Indian Polity by Lamikanth,India's Foreign Policy by Rajiv Sikri

For GS III - For Economics refer Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh, read ARC report along with Economic Survey and Fiscal Budget.

For GS IV - For Ethics refer a book named Lexicon by Niraj Kumar, also you can go through study material of IGNOU.

Remember to keep resources minimal always, read one book many a times instead of many a book one time

Start practicing answer writing in advance, even in a little way, Writing mains is a huge task, for nine paper it requires immense practice along with knowledge. There are many sites which provide questions on daily basis you can avail that. Try to give a holistic viewpoint while answer writing by providing political,economical and social aspect. You can use Insights,IASBaba to name a few,from the vision is site you'll get answer copies of toppers so do go through them to get an overall idea about format in the form of introduction,body,conclusion.

Practice previous year question paper which you can get from the site of UPSC,in addition mock papers, and test series which you can get it from any of the sites exclusively dedicated to UPSC, it's highly important to evaluate your performance while doing so. You can take the help of the Internet, there are many good websites and YouTube too can help you a lot in this preparation process.

how to begin with ias preparation

Dear Aspirant,

You must follow these simple steps:-
1. Check out the syllabus and structure your preparation, made a plan on how you're going to cover the syllabus.
The best thing to help you in this is coaching material from some good institute. They have their material prepared according to the need of the Exam.
2. When the plan is ready,make a schedule. Remember timetable matters a lot for this preparation years. Be ready to give at least 6 hours per day for the preparation.
3. Solve the questions from question banks.
4. Repeat these steps. Follow --> Learn --> practice.
5. Also keep on revising the stuff every third week. It is also a very crucial step in your preparation.

I chose Science and i,ve completed my 12th and I want to become an IAS officer so what options I have for graduation and which is best and which takes less year?

pdwords Student Expert 17th May, 2020
Hello,

When it comes to eligibility for UPSC candidates needs to have passed or appearing in the final year of graduation in any discipline from a recognized university. There's no minimum aggregate required in this case.

Now,one thing you've to understand that there's nothing like a quick thing whether it comes to graduation stream or even UPSC , it takes one year to prepare for UPSC exam and another one to appear. No matter in which field you do graduation, it's going to take 3-4 year and more in case of medical.

UPSC is more humanities oriented, so if you've inclination towards any of the subjects among Political Science/Public Administration/History/Geography/Economics/Law etc you can pursue.

If you don't want to go for any of the above option,then it's best you think about your areas of interest and go ahead with that, for instance there're many engineering students who have in the past graduated,gained some work experiences and thereafter appeared for UPSC, and it's also good to have a back up plan, you should do what suit you, if you're determined from this stage only to go for UPSC, then the sooner you start preparation the better it is, you can also qualify in your first attempt with single-minded focus and dedication.
