how to prepare for an ias after 10th

Reeyaa Saxena 13th Sep, 2020

Hello. Congrats for thinking on becoming an IAS. I have researched and steps you must follow to become IAS are:-

1) After giving your 10th, choose any branch.

2) After your 12th, do any degree(3-4 years).

3) After getting graduated, 1 year coaching for IAS with self practice is important.

4) Attend mock tests and then finally write exams (I.e.prelims,mains).

5) If you qualify in mains then you'll have interview in Delhi.

6) Remember that the marks of mains and interview will be added.

7) If you get a rank between 1-95 on India level then you'll become an IAS.

All the best!

Hope it helps!

Best booklist for upsc ias exam ?

pdwords Student Expert 12th Sep, 2020
Hello,

When it comes to preparation regarding UPSC, start  with NCERTs first as this will build your foundation strong, and then onwards move towards other standard books.

For Prelims, refer the following books:

History ;

  • NCERT Class XI and XII
  • India's Struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra
  • For Indian Culture, refer art and culture by Nitin Singhania

Geography ;

  • NCERT Class VI to XII
  • GC Leong's Physical Geography
  • World Atlas

Economics ;

  • NCERT Class XI
  • Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh

International Relations & Polity ;

  • NCERT XII Political Science with current affairs
  • Indian Polity by Laxmikanth

CSAT ;

  • Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Agarwal
  • M Tyra's Quicker Maths

You can refer the following books regarding  four General Studies Paper for Mains Exam

GS I - For History , Class XI NCERT book with India's struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra,India after Independence by Bipan Chandra,History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra

For Geography refer World Geography and Geography of India by Majid Hussain, GC Leong's Physical and Human Geography with NCERT Class XI book.

GS II - Polity and International Relations , refer Indian Polity by Lamikanth,India's Foreign Policy by Rajiv Sikri

GS III - For Economics refer Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh, read ARC report along with Economic Survey and Fiscal Budget.

GS IV - For Ethics refer a book named Lexicon by Niraj Kumar, also you can go through study material of IGNOU.

Always remember to keep your resources minimal, read one book many a times instead of many a book one time, revision is the key here, it'll take a lot of time to get acquainted with these, for instance Polity by Laxmikanth is one such that has to be time and again, at first it might be even difficult to grasp concepts or remember such volume of knowledge, but as I said keep revision it, you may read the chapters in weekdays and in weekends you may solve model papers. Doing this will also give you an idea how effectively you're being able to express the knowledge in the paper.
