The eligibility criteria to appear for UPSC CSE is passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, hence there is no such restrictions of belonging to specific stream, now coming to your question if you're enquiring about BSc Hons Chemistry being useful from the perspective of preparation of the exam, then there is optional paper of UPSC having this subjects, apart from the syllabus of UPSC itself is more inclined towards humanities subjects such as history, geography, economics, polity etc, the portion of science isn't that much, however if you have any other plans for future than appearing for UPSC, you should go ahead with your choice for BSc Chem Hons, the reason being UPSC is highly competitive exam, and it's good to have a back up plan, also you have just passed 12th, and you're still in a phase of figuring out your career plans, it's quite natural if you're not absolutely sure of only appearing for UPSC,
secondly I want to emphasize again that irrespective your stream at 10+2 or graduation level, you can qualify this exam is you have single minded focus, dedication and perseverance, if you look at previous year toppers they come from as diverse backgrounds as engineering, medical, science, commerce, etc, so there is no absolutely no reason why you cannot qualify you give all your efforts in this exam, as I said the attributes which make one successful in this exam are how focused, dedicated, and consistent you are in your efforts, and this holds true for every aspirants.
If your aim is to crack civil services examination (CSE) conducted by UPSC then primary thing is degree of graduation so if you are currently pursuing your graduation and along with you are preparing for CSE then it is the good thing. It would definitely benefit you if you are able to manage the timings of study of your graduation as well as for CSE preparation because in your final year you can appear for CSE and if you crack all the three rounds in the same year then it will be the win-win situation for you because just after completing your graduation you will get very honorary post in Civil Services.
But before opting for above strategy you must be determined to balance both the tasks simultaneously, your CSE preparation as well as your graduation.
Now if you want to prepare for CSE or already preparing for CSE then I am mentioning down some links which would help you in your preparation :

Hey Aditi,
Mere getting selected cannot make you an Army officer. You need to get into Officers Training Academy, Chennai for 9-11 months of hard training. Under the circumstance conditions also, no candidate is allowed to leave training in between. However, you can do so after completing the training. You will not get a sort of retirement or pension facility, it will be called a resignation and you need to submit it in Army Headquarters. Further, you can surely appear for UPSC CSE and be an IAS Officer. There is no such restriction to do so. However, if you are really focused for IAS, then it will be better to pursue it further, because if you leave army after getting selected and training, you may take a place from an another candidate having this dream and is sincere to pursue it.
Hello Lekhana,
As you are an IAS aspirant, you can choose and study any degree course because for IAS minimum education qualification needed is degree in any discipline. You you can take any degree course from streams like Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Medical, Management etc.
Based on your profile it suggests that you are in your 12 th standard but stream is not know through your profile, but you have already chosen a stream in your 12 th so accordingly you can choose degree course and study or can switch your stream. For example, 12 th Science students can also study B.Com or B.A instead of B.Sc or B.Tech or M edical courses or any Bachelor's degree in science stream or else if you want then you can go with Bachelor's degree in Science. If you have chosen any stream other than Science then you can choose Bachelor's degree if you meet the eligibility criteria.
For IAS degree in Humanities is preferred because you'll be dealing with Subjects related to Humanities in IAS exam. But if you take any other steam apart from Humanities is also fine.
May this information helped you.
