To becoming an IAS bsc law is good or ba llb?

Kanupriya Gupta 18th Jan, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

First let's see the basic difference between BSc. LLB and B.A. LLB. Both of them are integrated courses and the general duration for these courses across the universities and colleges on India is of 5 years as they are an integration of Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts respectively and with that the subject matter of law is also imparted to the candidates. The subjects for the law remain the same but in BA LLB, arts, humanities and social sciences subjects were also integrated. In BSc LLB, Physics, Chemistry etc. such subjects are integrated. One major problematic aspect of this is that only B.Sc. LLB can only be pursued by those students who have studied science in 10+2 as their main subject. Owing to this, if you are a science student and you wish to apply for this, the option is available but otherwise it is not so that naturally pitches BSc LLB out of the picture.

Subjects like History, Geography, Polity, Public Administration, Economics, Ecology, Environment, Science & Tech, Philosophy and Psychology are a part of General Studies paper which are all humanities subjects. So it will give you a upper hand in the paper and you would not have to utilise your time in understanding the subject later. So BA LLB works for people from any academic background and also aids the subjects that are to be studies in IAS.

Though this doesn't mean the BSc. LLB is not a good option as it can also aid you in your optional subject. Nevertheless, Take something which interests you more and fits your understanding of the same.

Hope this helps. All the best!

what would be the best major subject in PG for ias aspirant?

pdwords Student Expert 26th Feb, 2020
Hello,

First of all, the only eligibility to appear for UPSC is to have passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university. Final year candidates too are eligible. There's no doubt that UPSC is more humanities oriented, but people from other streams too have qualified this exam and continue to do so till today. If you are more inclined towards humanities, then you can pursue your studies keeping the optional subject in mind and it's best if you choose it among geography, history, political science, economics, sociology etc.

What is difference blw BA in humanities and BA in business studies. Whoch will help me to prepare IAS and which stream.

Shubhangi sinha 14th Jan, 2020

Hello Manikanta,

BA in humanities emphasis on soft skills and business studies generally focus on technical skills.

It doesn't matter whether B.A humanities or business studies . But, personally I would recommend to opt for B.A in humanities because it's easier and therefore you can devote more time for UPSC preparations.

you can take any subject according to your interest because in UPSC it is the interest that matters the most.

Good luck,

Hope it helps :)

Is the correct way to select the political science for IAS?

Akram Khan 10th Jan, 2020

Hi veeresh,

As I told you earlier the correct methods are different for different people. Some combination suits one while for some  other combination of the subjects suits.

the paper 3rd includes polity and related questions so if you choose it as an optional paper then it become beneficial for both the papers to study political sciences.

Similar is the case of history and geography they are part of paper 3. So if you choose these as optional subject than definitely your studies for paper 3 are also getting easy.

And for most these subjects are easy to understand also.

So you can choose political sciences as an optional subject if you want. However before deciding for yourself take a deep look on syllabus then choose according to your convenience.

Hope you find the information helpful.
