What is the scope in msc agronomy

Deepika Student Expert 19th Jul, 2019

dear aspirant,

Agronomy is simply an applied science that deals with maximization of crops productivity, it's an art and science of producing crops and managing the soils. An expertise in Agronomy majors many courses in Soil sciences, crop sciences, statistics and Biometry, Agricultural economics, land husbandry and management, Environmental conservation, some courses In Agricultural and irrigation engineering, and research skills.

As agriculture deals in a narrow sense with crops cultivation, Agronomy is a primary branch of agriculture that focuses in this area. For crops to grow healthier and in high yield Agronomy plays a great role, manipulation of Soils, environment, and crops themselves is the key. An agronomist therefore Is forged or equipped with these skills and knowledge to ensure better and sufficient crops(fiber, food, etc.), and sustainable agriculture at large.

Agronomy as introduced before is an applied science which has a wide scope in practice. Below are some of the most important ares of application.

Agricultural research, as global food and agricultural raw resources demand are dramatically increasing, the need for high quality and quantity crops increases. Global population is increasing and climate is changing, both raising the concerns for sufficient and secured food and raw resources supply to meet the demand. Pests, weeds and diseases are major problems towards crops production, agronomy plays a part as a tool to dig deeper on how to solve these and many similar problems. Henceforth Agronomy is inseparable from agricultural researches

Plant breeding, this is a deliberate human effort to nudge nature, with respect to the heredity of plants to an advantage. It involves crops improvement by interfering with the genes of plants. An understanding of Agronomy will help a breeder to provide the appropriate cultural conditions for optimal plant growth and development for successful hybridization and selection in the field. An improved cultivar is only as good as its cultural environment.

Crop protection, as previously stated diseases, weeds and pests are major constraints to crop production. They lead to damages and cops economic losses, by lowering both the quality and quantity of yields. They Lead to hunger and famine, job losses etc. Agronomy unlocks these mysteries and struggles to solve them by combining the expertise with other Agricultural sciences including weed sciences, plant pathology, plant breeding, soil microbiology, genetic engineering, Agricultural Entomology etc. In order to protect the crops ensuring food security and sustainable agriculture

Therefore, there are so many different areas in which Agronomy is of utmost importance (which I didn't discuss). An agronomist majors more than 72 courses as an undergraduate, In which he or she can work within as a specialist. The ultimate goal for Agronomy is to ensure sufficient, healthy and sustainable food security. There are so many areas to work in,hence border scope of Agronomy.

hope it helped.
