Boats and Streams - Boats and Streams questions are an extended version of Time, Speed & Distance. The questions related to this chapter hold a good number in all the competitive examinations. They are also asked in various government recruitment exams like SSC CGL, IBPS PO, SBI PO, etc. The key to crack this chapter is, that one should go through the basic concepts of Time, Speed and Distance and then should relate this with Boats and Streams aptitude. The only difference of Boats and Streams with Time, Speed and Distance is of terminologies. Some of the important terminologies and concepts related to boats & streams aptitude are as follows:-

    Boats and Streams
    Boats and Streams

    Condition

    Concept Related to Condition

When a boat is going with the stream (Downstream)

    • The relative speed to cover the distance would be the sum of the speed of boat & speed of the stream.

When a boat is going against the stream (Upstream)

    • The relative speed to cover the distance would be the difference in the speed of boat & speed of the stream.

When the distance covered by boat is downstream is equal to the distance covered by boat in upstream

    • (Time taken by boat in downstream): (Time taken by boat in upstream) = (Upstream Speed): (downstream Speed)

How to prepare boats and streams?

    • First of all go through time, speed, distance and trains before coming to boats & streams.

    • Learn and imagine the things in upstream and downstream.

    • Learn some tricks related to specific kind of questions repeatedly asked by the examination bodies.

    • Go through some puzzles related to the concept of the topic for having a great imagination and understanding.

    • Take a look at questions appeared in the past related to boats and streams.

    • Take a mock test for having great concept clarity.
