ESE Prelims Exam Pattern 2021
The first stage of UPSC ESE recruitment is the prelims exam. According to the ESE exam pattern 2021, there will be two papers. Paper I will be based on general studies and engineering aptitude whereas the question of Paper II will be based on engineering discipline. The total duration of the prelims exam will be five hours and students need to solve 100 and 150 multiple choice questions in Paper I and Paper II respectively. IES Mains Exam Pattern 2021
According to the ESE exam pattern 2021, the second stage of the UPSC ESE recruitment process is UPSC ESE main exam 2021. The main stage will be conducted in the offline mode using pen and paper. There will be two papers in the main stage. Candidates need to answer 5 out of 8 questions in both the papers. The total duration of both the papers is 6 hours and full marks will be 600 marks. Candidates must keep in mind that the score secured in the main stage will be considered for the final list.

UPSC ESE 2021 Exam Pattern for Interview
According to the IES exam pattern 2021, candidates shortlisted in the main examination are required to appear in the interview round for the final selection. The interview round is also known as the ESE personality test. Candidates will be scored out 0f 200 marks.
UPSC IES 2021 Marking Scheme
As per the IES exam pattern 2021, at the preliminary stage, candidates will be awarded 2 marks for each correct answer whereas one-third marks will be deducted for the wrong answers.
At the main stage, there will be descriptive type questions and 60 marks will be given for each correct answer. There will be no negative marking. However, 5 percent marks might be deducted for illegible handwriting.

Here are a few criteria for a candidate while he is appearing for the union public services examination-
1. Regarding the age criteria for a General candidate the minimum age limit for appearing in this examination is 21 years where as the upper age limit for an eligible Candidate is 35 years.
2. Secondly, the candidate must have a graduation degree from any recognised college irrespective of which stream in order to appear for the examinations.
3. A General candidate has a lifetime opportunity of of a total of 6 attempts to appear in these examinations.
