pdwords Student Expert 27th Dec, 2020
Hello,

First of all in order to appear for UPSC, you need to pass graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you need to be 21 years old, and can appear even in the final year of graduation. When it comes to preparation, the most important step is to get acquainted with the syllabus which you can get from the official website of UPSC, this exam consists of three stages-

Preliminary: First Stage is MCQs based exam, it has two papers and each one consists of 200 marks, its numbers ain't added to final list, you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

First is GS Paper-I which consists of the following topic such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc, Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system, Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change. you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

Second Paper is CSAT which is qualifying by nature, you need to score merely 33% which is 66 marks out of 200, it includes following topics such as basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills.

Mains: This is a second stage which it's more of a subjective type, you are required to write answers for Four General Studies Paper such as

  • GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society,
  • GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,
  • GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,
  • GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude
  • Two Optionals,
  • One Essay,
  • Two Language Paper

In total there are nine papers in Mains, and each paper is of 250 marks, total adds up to 1750 marks.

Interview : The two stages are further followed by personality test of 275 marks.

Another equally vital step for UPSC is to read newspaper on a daily basis, you can choose between The Hindu or The Indian Express, this will also help you in your answer writing, put emphasis on editorials, national and international news of importance, science and technology, economics, developments and reforms pertaiing to law etc.

Next comes the study materials, read one book many a time rather than many book one time, start off with NCERT as this will build your base strong, and later proceed towards other standard books such as

For Prelims , you can refer the following books:

History ;

NCERT Class XI and XII

For evaluating your progress as well as to get acquainted with the paper pattern, type of questions, important topics, you should go through previous year paper, that's available in the official website of UPSC.

Apply mock papers on regular basis, you can make a schedule of studying in the week days, and applying mock on weekends, this will help you know how much you're progressing and the areas that require improvement.

Practice answer writing in advance, writing mains is humongous task, hence daily practice is essential, you should consider going through previous year toppers's answer sheets, that's readily available online, this will give you an overview on how to present your answer by providing a holistic view in terms of political, social, economical etc.

im going to take mpc and i want to do ias then what coaching i have to take and what i want to do can i will be abel to ias after taking mpc

ADITYA KUMAR Student Expert 27th Dec, 2020
Hi

Your profile suggest that you are a class 11th student and now that you are doing your 10+2 with MPC i. eMathematics Physics and Chemistry you should focus on your 10+2 as it is not that easy and to score good marks you need to devote time and practice questions so that you can get admission in a good college for your graduation.

So you don't need to do any coaching for your UPSC examination right now ,you can start your preparation for UPSC examination either after completing your graduation or during your graduation but not right now. And that time if you want to join any coaching, then some of the top coachings include :-
* Vision IAS Academy
*Rau's IAS Study Circle
* Chanakya IAS Academy

But yes, if you find your 10 + 2 studies difficult then you can definitely join a coaching for your 10+2

And yes, you will be able to become an IAS officer with MPC 10 + 2 ,you don't need to worry about it at all but yes you'll have to do graduation first and even for graduation you can choose any subject of your choice

You can check UPSC eligibility provided criteria below:-

* You must have a bachelor's degree in any, discipline from a recognised university.

So don't worry what all you need to be eligible is a bachelor's degree, it's completely ok if you have taken MPC in your 10 + 2

*Minimum age limit :- you need to be at least 21 years old to be eligible.

*Maximum age limit :- 32 years , also there's 3 year relaxation on upper age limit for obc and of 5 years for sc/st category.

which engineering course is better after intermediate MPC that also helps for IAS Civils

pdwords Student Expert 2nd Feb, 2021

Hello,

Generally UPSC tends to be more humanities oriented that is you have to study history, geography, polity, economics etc, and this is prevalent in your prelims as well as mains, however if this question is in anyway related to the optional subjects then Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering are there, hence if you have any interest in any of these fields, you can accordingly choose your career, other than this you have to study a large part of portions that covers humanities subjects,

UPSC Civil Service Exam consists of three stages-

Preliminary: First Stage is MCQs based exam, it has two papers and each one consists of 200 marks, its numbers ain't added to final list, you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

First is GS Paper-I which consists of the following topic such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change. you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

Mains: This is a second stage which it's more of a subjective type, you are required to write answers for Four General Studies Paper such as

GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society,

GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,

GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,

GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude

Two Optionals,

One Essay,

Two Language Paper

In total there are nine papers in Mains, and each paper is of 250 marks, total adds up to 1750 marks.

Interview : The two stages are further followed by personality test of 275 marks.

But, remember that irrespective of the stream you choose you will be eligible to appear for UPSC if you have done graduation in any stream from a recognized university as there are no barriers of belonging to any specific domain as such.

pdwords Student Expert 22nd Dec, 2020

Hello,

First of all in order to appear for UPSC, you need to be 21 years old and completed graduation in any  stream from a recognized university, you can also appear in the final year of graduation, there is no such barrier in terms of belonging to any specific stream, this year itself one of the topper who comes from IIT background succeeded with physics as optional subject, now this is something which can surprise a lot of people, hence it has got lot more to do with your choices, for instance even if you stick to science stream , you will be still eligible to appear for UPSC, and in case you want to have other back-up plans such as higher studies or teaching, it's a good option, but if you're wholly and solely focused on clearing UPSC, then having humanities subjects in graduation help such as political science, sociology, economics, geography, history, public administration etc , but remember that no matter what stream you choose, you'll be still eligible and moreover it's you focus, dedication, and perseverance which will sail you through this exam.
