There is no particular need for any subject or any course to be undertaken to become an IAS officer. You just need to finish your graduation course in any of the field like Engineering, medical, bcom, BA, BSc, etc. There is nothing to be particular about any stream in IAS exam.
I will tell the subjects asked in the UPSC IAS examination - General Studies, English, Essay writing, any language of your choice, optional subject of your choice (includes agriculture, chemistry, economics, civil, electrical;, mechanics, etc.)

Hello!
The UPSC exam has three phases - Prelims, Mains and a Personal Interview.
1) Prelims:
This has two papers - General Studies and an Aptitude Test. General Studies includes questions from a vast assortment of topics including Science and Technology, History, Geography, Economy, etc. The Aptitude Test includes reasoning questions and reading comprehension.
2) Mains:
Once you've cleared your Prelims, you can go forward and write your Mains. This has 7 papers plus 2 qualifying papers. From the 7 papers, two are optional subject papers, which can be chosen from a list of subjects.
The optional subjects include Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, each having a success rate of 5.4, 5.2 and 3.9 percentage respectively. However, you can also select other non-engineering subjects from the list and choose according to your strength or preference.
3) Personal Interview:
Once you clear your Mains test, you'll be called for a personal interview, based on which your selection will take place.
So to answer your question, in case you're planning on selecting any of the engineering subjects at your Mains stage, you can go for Electrical, Mechanical or Civil engineering for your UG. Otherwise, you can select any other branch and still write any engineering or non-engineering papers for your optional subjects.
hey,
if you are form science stream and got 50 percent marks and want to become an IAS officer then if you are not having interest in science and want your time to be devoted only on the preparation of becoming IAS officer then please go for b.A degree.
i wish you all the best!
