i have completed class12th from CBSE this year , i want to became an IAS officer ,which graduation i should persue as a commerce student so that i can easily prepare for my UPSC exam along with graduation ?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 27th Jun, 2020

Krish, to b e eligible for UPSC, you should have completed your Graduation in any stream. So you can study your Bachelor's in any stream. But previous years Statistics state that Candidates who have studied History, Anthropology, Geography have been able to score good than their counterparts. So you may try that too. This way when you take an Optional subject for your Mains, it would be helpful for you.

UPSC is a 3 stage   selection process involving Prelims, Mains and Interview which tests your personality test. Prelims has 2 Papers namely General Studies and CSAT.

General Studies has Current Events, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change and General Science.

CSAT has Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical Reasoning and Analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General Mental Ability, Basic numeracy and Data Interpretation.

can i leave history subject in ias ????

UPSC is a 3 stage   selection process involving Prelims, Mains and Interview which tests your personality test. Prelims has 2 Papers namely General Studies and CSAT.

General Studies has Current Events, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change and General Science.

So if you look at it National and International History are important topics even in the Prelims. So skipping History might not be a wise decision. You may opt for another Optional subject during Mains but leaving History during Prelims might cost you your qualification for the Mains because at that level, every point matters.

Bhawna Mehbubani 25th Jun, 2020

For a good preparation of IAS, you must study the subjects like Economics, Public administration or Political Science and Basic maths.

Since, you are already choosing maths as a optional subject, keep economics and political science in your curriculum as well, for you don't face much difficulty while preparing for IAS.

rehan18alam Student Expert 25th Jun, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

In a general case the sheet with the higher marks will be applicable, so if you get lower marks in the betterment exam then your previous score will remain valid, however, if you got a good score in betterment then that will be your final score.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

Sir I am a science student.... But i want to become IAS.. which is better among B.A and B.sc for me?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 24th Jun, 2020

Chetan, there is no stream specialisation for appearing for UPSC which is the entrance examination for IAS positions.

If you look at the prelims subjects, it is general subjects but when it comes to selecting optional subjects your Bachelor's degree will come in hand. Statistics show that Candidates who have taken subjects like Public Administration, Geography, Anthropology, History, General Science have scored better than counterparts. So if you can study any of these subjects in your BA, they will  help you in your preparation in the long run.
