Arya 9th Nov, 2019

For eligibility to answer UPSC exam, you need to be an Indian citizen, be a degree-holder and be of age 21-32 years old.

There are three rounds of examinations which are held.

First is the preliminary round. This has two written exams of 200 marks each. For paper-1, you need to have a very in-depth knowledge of India and her culture, mythology, art, geography, political systems etc. for paper-2, one needs to have excellent reasoning and logical sense along with English Proficiency.

Second comes the Mains round. It consists of a nine-paper written examination on General Studies 1, 2, 3, 4, English, Essay, one Indian language from a list provided and two papers on a subject to be selected by the candidate.

The interview, also called the "Personality Test", very minutely measures the candidate's professional conduct and decorum.

Upon passing this rigorous ordeal, the candidate is granted a job in one of the Indian Administrative Services.

Hello Prayash,

Do not be discouraged. When you are determined you can achieve anything with hard work.Let me clear you something, the questions will be asked both in Hindi and English and you can answer them in any scheduled languages of India which means that if your regional language is Hindi you can attempt the paper in Hindi. However, your English skills are also important. You can start learning it from now.You can join as well join in a coaching centre.Start reading English newspaper, watch English news, start talking with your friends, siblings, cousins in English, do not feel shy if you commit any mistakes learn from mistakes.Do not loose confident. You can also talk in English with yourself. You can join in any good coaching centre for preparation of UPSC.

When you consistently put efforts in learning English you will definitely improve your English skills.

And your English is quite good :)

I hope this is helpful to you.

what course should take in degree to do ias (civils)

ADITYA KUMAR Student Expert 2nd Nov, 2019
Hello there!

Greetings!

You can go for any stream as there's no restrictions to have a degree in a particular subject to be eligible for upsc , a graduate in any discipline in eligible for upsc , if you are interested in physics then you can go for physics hons. and then you can choose physics as your optional in your upsc exam but if you do your degree in arts then it will help you a lot as the syllabus of upsc is similar to that of arts students. Arts students enjoy benefits in case of upsc exam as they have subjects like Economics, History and Geography which is asked in upsc. So , you can go for arts in your graduation.

Thankyou

for becoming IAS which is best engg or degree

pdwords Student Expert 25th Oct, 2019

Hello,

Eligibility criteria for UPSC is Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognized university, in addition to have attained 21 years age.

UPSC syllabus is more inclined towards humanities subject, that's evident from Prelims and Mains syllabus, even through science is a part of it but in a limited way.

To answer your question, it depends on a lot of thing, first are you a science student and want to continue with this stream, if yes please go ahead, you can manage UPSC syllabus, also you can select science subjects as optionals, people from engineering background too have cracked UPSC with science optionals. This stream opens avenues in different sectors as well such as corporate ones.

However, if you're more inclined towards humanities subject and feel having studied this will help you in UPSC preparation, it definitely will be an added advantage to you. Because you'll be more familiar with arts subject which is essence of UPSC syllabus. Choose this only if you have only one aim in life that is to crack UPSC. In this sense, you'll be more clear and focused about your goal since starting.
