Question : Points 'A' and 'B' are 70 km apart on a highway. A car starts from 'A' and another from 'B' at the same time. If they travel in the same direction, they meet in 7 hours, but if they travel towards each other, they meet in one hour. Find the speed of the two cars (in km/hr).

Option 1: 20, 30

Option 2: 40, 30

Option 3: 30, 50

Option 4: 20, 40

Team Careers360 26th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: 40, 30

Solution : Let the speed of the car starting from A be $x$ km/hr and that from B be $y$ km/hr. ($x>y$)
In opposite direction, relative speed = $(x+y)$ km/hr
In same direction, relative speed = $(x-y)$ km/hr
Distance = 70 km
⇒ $\frac{70}{x-y}$ = 7 [Use: Time = $\frac{\text{Relative Distance}}{\text{Relative Speed}}$]
⇒ $x-y$ = 10 --------------(i)
Also, $\frac{70}{x+y}$ = 1 [Use: Time = $\frac{\text{Relative Distance}}{\text{Relative Speed}}$]
⇒ $x+y$ = 70 --------------(ii)
Adding (i) and (ii),
$2x$ = 80
⇒ $x$ = 40 km/hr
Subtracting (i) from (ii),
$2y$ = 60
⇒ $y$ = 30 km/hr
Hence, the correct answer is 40, 30.

Question : The rapidly growing mass of phytoplankton covering the surface water of a lake or pond is known as:

Option 1: eutrophication

Option 2: water bloom

Option 3: water pollution

Option 4: water hyacinth

Team Careers360 27th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: eutrophication

Solution : The correct answer is eutrophication.

When nutrient levels in any water body increase, especially that of phosphate and nitrate, which leads to increases in the biomass of the water body, this process is known as eutrophication. Its initial stage is characterised by the rapid growth of phytoplankton in the upper layer of the water body. It is caused because of agricultural runoff, and industrial waste, which increase nutrient levels. It is harmful and leads to the death of the aquatic ecosystem.

Question : Directions: Select the correct combination of mathematical signs to sequentially replace the * signs and to balance the given equation.
(440 * 11) * 85 * 57 * (34 * 3)

Option 1: +, −, =, ÷, +

Option 2: ×, =, −, ÷, +

Option 3: +, ×, =, ÷, +

Option 4: ÷, −, =, −, ×

Team Careers360 26th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: ÷, −, =, −, ×

Solution : Given:
(440 * 11) * 85 * 57 * (34 * 3)

Let's check the given options –
First option: +, −, =, ÷, +
⇒ (440 + 11) − 85 = 57 ÷ (34 + 3)
L.H.S. = 451 − 85 = 366
R.H.S. = 57 ÷ 37 = 1.54
L.H.S. ≠ R.H.S.
Second option: ×, =, −, ÷, +
⇒ (440 × 11) = 85 − 57 ÷ (34 + 3)
L.H.S. = (440 × 11) = 4840
R.H.S. = 85 − 57 ÷ 37 = 85 − 1.54 = 83.46
L.H.S. ≠ R.H.S.
Third option: +, ×, =, ÷, +
⇒ (440 + 11) × 85 = 57 ÷ (34 + 3)
L.H.S. = 451 × 85 = 38335
R.H.S. = 57 ÷ 37 = 1.54
L.H.S. ≠ R.H.S.
Fourth option: ÷, −, =, −, ×
⇒ (440 ÷ 11) − 85 = 57 − (34 × 3)
L.H.S. = 40 − 85 = –45
R.H.S. = 57 − 102 = –45
L.H.S. = R.H.S.

So, only the fourth option satisfies the given equation. Hence, the fourth option is correct.

Question : The height and the radius of the base of a right circular cone are in the ratio of 12 : 5. If its volume is 314 cm3, then what is the slant height of the cone? (Use $\pi$ = 3.14)

Option 1: 12 cm

Option 2: 11 cm

Option 3: 13 cm

Option 4: 14 cm

Team Careers360 27th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: 13 cm

Solution : Given: The height and the radius of the base of a right circular cone = 12 : 5
Let the height be $12x$ and the radius is $5x$.
Volume = 314 cm3
We know that,
Volume of a cone = $\frac{1}{3}\pi r^2 h$
⇒ $314 = \frac{1}{3} × 3.14 × 5x × 5x × 12x$
⇒ $100 = 100x^3$
⇒ $x=1$
Radius $=5x=5\times1=5$
Height $=12x=12\times1=12$
Slant height = $\sqrt{\text{height$^2$ + radius$^2$}}=\sqrt{12^2+5^2}=\sqrt{144+25}=\sqrt{169}=13\ \text{cm}$
Hence, the correct answer is 13 cm.

Question : The distance between two places A and B is 14 km. A boat travels from A to B downstream and then returns from B to A upstream which takes a total of 3 hours 44 minutes for the entire journey. If the speed of the current is 2 km/hr, then what is the speed of the boat, in km/hr, in still water?

Option 1: $8$

Option 2: $7$

Option 3: $7 \frac{1}{2}$

Option 4: $6 \frac{1}{2}$

Team Careers360 27th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: $8$

Solution : Given: Distance = 14 km
Let the speed of the boat be $x$ km/hr.
According to the question,
$\frac{14}{(x + 2)} + \frac{14}{(x - 2)} = 3\frac{44}{60}$
⇒ $\frac{14(x - 2 + x + 2)}{(x^2 - 4)} = 3 + \frac{44}{60}$
⇒ $\frac{28x}{(x^2 - 4)}= \frac{56}{15}$
⇒ $15x = 2x^2 - 8$
⇒ $2x^2 - 15x - 8 = 0$
⇒ $2x^2 - 16x + x - 8 = 0$
⇒ $2x(x - 8) + 1 (x - 8) = 0$
⇒ $(2x + 1) (x - 8) = 0$
⇒ $x - 8 = 0$ [Since speed can not be negative]
⇒ $x = 8$ km/hr
Hence, the correct answer is 8.
