Hello,

UPSC Civil Service Exam is one of the most prestigious exam in our country, it offers a great scope to provide service to the society, people and the country at large. Right now you're only in class 11th, hence your priority should be your studies, to do well and fetch good marks, secondly in order to appear for UPSC, you need to pass graduation in any discipline from a recognized University, there is no specific aggregate required, you can apply even in the final year of graduation, you need to attain 21 years age, UPSC exam is conducted over a year in three stages namely Prelims, Mains and Interview, prior to this you'll need one year of preparation, so overall a two years is required hence it's important to be able to sustain the required drive, focus and perseverance in order to succeed in this exam, that's where the WHY part becomes essential, if that's crystal clear, then you'll sail through this.

Sir, my question is that in your view, which post can contribute more for the country, first is PhD and second is IAS from UPSC.

Arihant kapoor 14th Nov, 2020

Hello Aspirant

By doing PhD you can contribute by doing research in a particular area. Let's say if you are pursuing PhD in Commerce then you do research in the area related to particular subject. Your research can help only a small section of society related to your field of subject. So, you are helping and contributing towards society but only to a smaller sector.

Now, IAS is an civil servant who has more resources than a PhD scholar. Also, in a city or in society IAS is the one whose decisions has a direct impact on everyone's life. IAS has powers with which he/she can make a city crime free, makes city a better place to live. The administration of a city is in the hands of DM of city, who is an IAS. So, in comparison to PhD, IAs is the field which can contribute more for the country.

Hope this helps.

Ankur Dubey Student Expert 11th Nov, 2020

Hello

Both are important for ias exam. Whatever you choose  it will only help you out in a particular paper.

There are many other subject that you have to cover. Like history, geography,  economics, geology, science.

It doesn't matter which group you take . So go for the group which you are interested in. Most of the student choose political science to  get a good hold on it.

Hii!
As per the eligibility criteria, you must have a graduation degree with you with atleast 50% marks from any relevant subject stream from a recognised University. So, your 10th and 12th certificates don't matter intially. This, you can apply for UPSC IAS and you will be eligible for it. Don't worry.

Can I write PSI, KAS, UPSC or any other state and Central competitive exams with the distance degree? please let me know I am in big fan vision to plan my future.

Karam Vir 5th Nov, 2020

Hi,

Yes, you are very much eligible to sit for the UPSC or any other state examination. You just need to pursue graduation in any field from a recognized university. So, by distance education, you can sit for the UPSC and any other state exams as distance courses is also offered by the recognized university only. So, do not worry and prepare for the same. There is no such provision that distance or private candidates cannot appear for the UPSC exam.
