my OD is -2D and OS is -2.25D. am I eligible for nda?

Prachi Kumari 25th Aug, 2024

Hello Tanushree,

For the National Defence Academy (NDA) in India, the eligibility criteria for vision are quite specific. Generally, the NDA requires candidates to have good eyesight, with permissible limits for myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) being quite strict.

Typically, the vision standards are:

  • Myopia : Up to -2.5D (diopters) is usually acceptable.
  • Hyperopia : Generally, up to +1.5D is permissible.

Given your prescription of -2D in one eye and -2.25D in the other, you are just within the general limit for myopia. However, since vision standards can sometimes be subject to changes or interpretations, it’s a good idea to check the most current and specific guidelines or consult with an NDA admissions office or an ophthalmologist who specializes in military examinations to get a definitive answer.

Hope it helps !

i have exophoria but some time exophoria come at very small angle my vision is 6/6 binocular vision also also focusing on index finger but some time I face exophoria can I select in nda

Ishita 18th Aug, 2024

Hello Aspirant

While I can provide general information, it's crucial to consult with a medical professional and the NDA selection board for definitive guidance.

If I'm not wrong, Exophoria is a type of eye misalignment where one or both eyes tend to drift outward. It can vary in severity. Your condition, characterized by intermittent exophoria at a small angle and good binocular vision, suggests a milder form of the condition.

The National Defense Academy (NDA) has specific medical standards for candidates. These standards are designed to ensure that recruits are physically and mentally fit for the rigorous training and demanding roles in the armed forces.

The degree of exophoria is a critical factor. Mild cases might not be a disqualifying factor, but moderate to severe exophoria could pose challenges.

Your good binocular vision is a positive aspect as it indicates your eyes can work together effectively. Still, the final decision rests with the NDA medical board. They will conduct a thorough examination and determine your fitness based on the overall assessment.

I have not given any entrance exam other tha NDA and took a drop solely for nda, what impression will it leave on my IO during ssb interview?

Prachi Kumari 28th Jul, 2024

Hello,

Taking a drop year solely to prepare for the NDA (National Defence Academy) exam can have both positive and negative implications during your SSB (Services Selection Board) interview. Here's how it might be perceived by the Interviewing Officer (IO):

Positive Impressions:

  1. Focus and Dedication : Your decision to take a year off to prepare for the NDA shows a high level of commitment and focus towards your goal. This can be seen as a positive trait, reflecting determination and a clear sense of purpose.
  2. Perseverance : It demonstrates that you are willing to make sacrifices and put in sustained effort to achieve your objectives, which are crucial qualities in a military career.
  3. Time Management : If you can show that you utilized your drop year effectively, with a structured plan for preparation, it will indicate good time management and self-discipline.
  4. Clarity of Goals : Your clear intention to join the NDA and the efforts you made towards this goal can show that you have a clear vision for your future and are serious about a career in the armed forces.

Negative Impressions:

  1. Lack of Backup Plans : The IO might question why you did not appear for other entrance exams or have alternative plans. This could be seen as a lack of foresight or planning for contingencies.
  2. Pressure Handling : The IO might be concerned about how you handle pressure and failure, considering you put all your efforts into one exam. They may probe into how you would cope with setbacks in a high-stress environment.
  3. Risk Assessment : It could raise questions about your ability to assess risks and make balanced decisions, especially if there was no backup plan in place.

Mitigating Negative Impressions:

  • Explain Your Preparation : Detail how you spent your drop year productively. Mention any additional skills or knowledge you gained, physical fitness training, leadership roles, or extracurricular activities you undertook to enhance your candidature.
  • Show Learning : Emphasize what you learned from the experience, how it strengthened your resolve, and how you are better prepared for future challenges.
  • Plan for Future : Discuss your future plans and how you intend to proceed, demonstrating that you have thought through various scenarios and have a clear roadmap ahead.

Hope it helps you!
