About WBPCS 2023

West Bengal Public Service Commission conducted the WBPSC prelims 2023 exam on December 16, 2023. The WBPSC 2023 prelims answer key was released on December 22, 2023 on the official website, psc.wb.gov.in. WBPSC had released the WBCS 2023 application form online on February 28 on the official website. The authorities will close WBCS application form 2023 on March 21. Candidates who are citizens of India, between 20 and 36 years of age holding graduation degree can fill the application form of WBCS 2023 exam. 

Along with the filling of application form, candidates have to pay the prescribed application fee of Rs. 210 in online/offline mode. The exam will be held in offline mode for filling up various state government posts under Group A, B, C & D. The exam is conducted in three phases – preliminary, mains and interview. Candidates are required to qualify in all three stages of the exam to be recruited for the various state government posts.

Candidates who are applying for WBPSC are advised to read the eligibility criteria carefully before applying for the exam. The detail pertaining to WBPSC eligibility is given below. 

Education Qualifications for WBPSC: A candidate must have the following qualifications as clearly stated in the notification released for WBPSC. The qualifications prescribed for appearing in the exam are as per the notified recruitment rules issued by the West Bengal Government. Candidates applying for the exam must fulfill the essential qualifications by the closing date.

Candidates must have a degree of a recognized University.

Candidates must have the ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for those candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali) 

Age Limit for WBPSC

Age, as recorded only in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate, will be accepted. The age limits apply to all candidates whether in Government Service or not.

Age Limit: Between 21 and 36 years

  • Candidates must not below 21 years and not more than 36 years on January 1 of the year of examination 
  • Candidates should not have born earlier than January 2, 1983, and not later than January 1, 1998. 

For Group 'B' Service of the West Bengal Police Service only 

  • Age not below 20 years but not more than 36 years on the January 1 of the year of examination i.e. candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1987, and not later than the 1st January 2003).
  • For Group 'D' Service of the West Bengal Police Service only 
  • The age should not be below 21 years and not more than 36 years on the January 1 of the year of the examination i.e. candidates should have born not earlier than January 2, 1987, and not later than January 1, 2002. 
  • Those candidates whose date of birth lies between January 1, 2002, & January 1, 2003, i.e. candidates whose age is between 20 & 21 years as on 01.01.2023 may apply for Group B only 
  • WBPCS 2023 Concession in age: The upper age limit for S.C., S.T. & B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal, by 5 years for S.C. & S.T. candidates and by 3 years for B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates. In the case of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit is relaxable up to 45 years. For S.C./S.T./B.C. candidates of other States shall be treated as general candidates

Nationality for WBPSC

The candidate must be either of the following can apply for WBPSC

  • A citizen of India (either natural or by registration)
  • Such other nationals as declared eligible by the Government of India

To apply for the exam, candidates had to register first by providing all information required for the exam. The application fee for the exam was Rs 210. Candidates have to pay the application fee either online or offline using credit/ debit card, net banking or bank challan. However, candidates of West Bengal belonging to SC, ST categories and PwD candidates from any State were exempted from paying the fee.

Steps to fill the WBPSC application form 2023:

  • Candidates were able to register for the exam by clicking on ‘One Time Registration’ and fill all required details and upload photograph and signature. 
  • After registering, user ID and password was generated. Next, candidates had to log in to the dashboard by visiting the link ‘Login to your Account’ with user ID and password. Having logged in, the name of the exam with the link to apply was displayed. 
  • Candidates had to click on the appropriate link to open application form of WBCS 2023. In the application form, candidates must have provided personal, contact, academic and examination details. 
  • After providing the required information, candidates had to accept the declaration. Following the signing of the declaration, candidates had to click on the ‘Submit’ button. 
  • After submission, they were required to pay the application fee of Rs 210. Candidates belonging to SC and ST categories of West Bengal were exempted from paying the application fee.
  • However, SC/ ST candidates from other states were required to pay the requisite fee.
  • Candidates who had paid the fee were able to save and download WBCS application form 2023 by clicking on ‘Application Button’ in the dashboard.

WBCS is conducted in three phases - prelims, mains and personal interview. Candidates will have to appear in all the stages to be recruited for the various posts announced under West Bengal Civil Services. The prelims exam consists of one paper which is divided into 8 sections. The paper will comprise questions from General Studies. 

WBCS Prelims exam will contain 200 objective type questions whereas WBCS mains exam will comprise a total of eight papers - six compulsory papers and one optional subject divided into two papers. All the papers will contain 200 marks each. Candidates will be allotted 3 hours to complete each paper. 

Preliminary Exam

The prelims exam of WBCS 2023 will comprise one paper of 200 marks. The exam will contain total 200 objective type questions. As per the marking scheme of WBCS 2023, candidates will be awarded 1 mark for every correct answer in the prelims exam. The exam pattern of WBCS 2023 has been provided in the table below.

WBCS Mains exam will contain 6 compulsory papers and two optional papers. Each paper will carry 200 marks and will be held for 3 hours. As per WBCS exam pattern, Paper 1 and 2 along with the two optional papers will consist of conventional type questions while the remaining 6 papers will comprise objective type questions. After the conduct of the Mains exam, a personality test will be held by the Commission. Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview based on marks secured by candidates in the mains exam. The personality test/ Interview will comprise questions pertaining to general interest. The aim of the test to evaluate personal qualities of candidates. The qualities include alertness of mind, logical reasoning, intellectual and moral integrity, leadership and range of interests in candidates. The personality test will be conducted for total 200 marks.

                                                                                                                                            The preparation tips of WBCS provides candidates with suggestions and instructions on how to prepare for the exam so that candidates can secure better marks in the exam. WBCS preparation tips 2023 has been provided below.

                                                                                                                                            • Candidates must go through the syllabus and exam pattern of WBCS in order to make themselves familiar with the subjects, topics, sections, marking scheme, number of question in each sections, duration of the exam to help them prepare for the exam in an efficient way so that the syllabus is completed well before time.
                                                                                                                                            • After candidates have completed the syllabus, they can proceed with the revision process to summarise all topics they have covered for the exam. Revision is a crucial part of the preparation plan for any exam as it helps candidates brush up the concepts and basics of the topics required.   
                                                                                                                                            • After revision, candidates must start attempting previous years’ sample papers, model papers and mock test to increase their efficiency in answering questions and manage their time effectively on the day of examination.
                                                                                                                                            •  Candidates should also read newspapers, journals and magazines daily to stay updated regarding the current issues of the world.

                                                                                                                                            WBCS admit card 2023 is issued online by West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC). The admit card is released for each stage of the exam separately, i.e. prelims, mains and personality test. Candidates can download the admit card of WBCS using their first name or enrollment number and date of birth. 

                                                                                                                                            The WBCS 2023 admit card comprises information such as name of candidates, registration number, date, time and venue of the examination, exam day guidelines and other relevant details. If candidates notice discrepancies in the admit card, they have to contact the exam conducting body to get it resolved.

                                                                                                                                            Preliminary Exam

                                                                                                                                            The admit card of WBPSC for the prelims stage will be released online on the official website. Candidates can download the admit card either by entering the enrollment number or first name and date of birth. Candidates can download the admit card till the day of examination. Details like name, date of birth, roll number, time of the exam, exam venue details specified in it. In case of any discrepancy in the admit card, candidates must immediately contact the commission to get it changed.

                                                                                                                                            WBPSC will release the WBCS prelims answer key 2023 on its website. The answer key of WBCS is released in the form of pdf for prelims exam. WBCS answer key displays the correct answers of questions asked in the exam. Through WBCS answer key, candidates can check the number of answers marked correctly and incorrectly in the exam. Based on the number of correct answers, candidates can calculate their probable score.

                                                                                                                                            WBCS result is declared separately for preliminary, mains and final Allotment. WBCS result of mains exam will be announced to shortlist candidates for personality test. The final allotment result of WBCS will be declared based on the marks obtained by candidates in mains and personality test.  

                                                                                                                                            Preliminary Exam

                                                                                                                                            WBCS 2023 result for the prelims exam will be declared on the official website. The result is announced in the form of a PDF, containing the roll numbers of all the prelims qualified candidates. Since the prelims stage is qualifying in nature, marks obtained in the prelims exam are not considered during preparation of final merit list. Candidates passing the prelims exam will have to appear for the mains exam, the result of which tentatively will be announced in July 2023.

                                                                                                                                            WBCS result for mains will be announced after the completion of the exam stage. Through the result of WBCS mains, candidates will be selected to appear for Personality Test. After the conduct of personality test, the Commission will prepare the final merit list on the basis of marks secured by candidates in mains and personality test. The merit list will be made available in the form of pdf file consisting the list of candidates who have been shortlisted for appointment to the posts applied under.

                                                                                                                                            The exam conducting body releases WBCS cut off for preliminary examination mains and final allotment. Only those candidates are selected for the mains exam who have secured the Cutoff in the preliminary exam.  The cut off for mains exam will be decided based on compulsory and optional papers. WBCS Cut off for final allotment is the marks secured by first and last recommended candidates for selection.

                                                                                                                                            Preliminary Exam

                                                                                                                                            The cut off of WBCS is prescribed by Public Service Commission, West Bengal (PSCWB) to qualify candidates for subsequent exam stages. On the basis of the cutoff, candidates will be selected to appear for the next stage of the exam. WBCS cut off for the prelims exam will be determined by PSCWB to shortlist candidates for the mains exam. Candidates appearing in the Prelims exam must obtain equal to or more than the cutoff fixed by the commission to qualify for the next stage of WBCS 2023.

                                                                                                                                            After the Mains exam has been conducted, the Commission will release the cutoff of WBCS  mains. Candidates securing the WBCS cutoff for Mains will be selected to appear for the interview/ personality test. PSCWB will release a final cutoff list after Personality Test has been conducted. The final cutoff will be prepared based on aggregate score in Mains and Personality Test. As per WBCS cut off, candidates securing the minimum prescribed marks will be selected for the posts they have applied.

                                                                                                                                            Public Service Commission, West Bengal (PSCWB) conducts West Bengal Civil Services (WBCS) in three stage - Prelims, Mains and Personality Test. Candidates will be selected for each subsequent stage based on their performance in the previous stage of the exam. Candidates will be shortlisted for Mains exam on the basis of marks obtained in Prelims. 

                                                                                                                                            In the Mains exam, candidates securing equal to or more than the cutoff marks prescribed by the Commission will be called for Personality Test. After the conduct of the Personality Test, a final merit list will be prepared based on the combined scores of candidates in Mains exam and Personality Test. On the basis of the final merit list, candidates shortlisted for appointment to selected posts will be called to appear for a medical exam, qualifying which they will be recruited to the posts.

                                                                                                                                            You have tagged WBPSC and from your profile it seems you belong to West Bengal, if this query is anyway related to West Bengal Civil Service Executive Exam then online registration hasn't commenced yet, it will start from tomorrow, ie..24th December and last date is 15th January, 2021. in case of other active exams such as WB Audit and Accounts Service Exam or Geological/Geo -Hydrological Assistant, you have to do one time registration and accordingly proceed ahead, if you still face any issue kindly elaborate in the comment box below.
