UPSC Civil Services mains exam 2018 has begun on September 28 and will continue till October 7. The exam is being conducted across 24 cities throughout the country in offline mode in two shifts - afternoon and morning. As many as 10,460 candidates are appearing for UPSC Civil Services exam.
According to the UPSC Civil Services exam pattern, the mains exam consists of nine conventional type papers, out of which two papers are qualifying in nature and the marks obtained in the rest of the papers will be considered for the merit list of mains exam.
The score of mains exam will be calculated out of 1750 marks. Each paper is conducted for 3 hours. The medium of question paper is in Hindi and English. However, the language papers are set in their respective languages.
The Indian Languages and English papers are of matriculation level whereas the questions of the optional papers are of graduation and post-graduation level. The mains examination aims to assess candidates overall capabilities and in-depth understanding of the subject.
The Essay, General Studies and Optional subjects of only those candidates will be evaluated who secure qualifying marks in Indian Languages and English. The minimum qualifying marks in English and Indian Language papers are 25% each.
The result of mains exam is expected to be released in December 2018. Candidates qualifying the mains exam will be eligible to appear for personality test. The total marks allotted to personality test are 275.
Civil Services examination is conducted for the recruitment of candidates to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service, Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
