Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced notification for Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS I) for the year 2016 on November 7, 2015. The commission will be conducting CDS (I) 2016 on February 14. You need to check the eligibility criteria of CDS (I) 2016 before filling in the application forms.
UPSC has notified as many as 457 vacancies for CDS (I) 2016 in five courses – Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, India Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala, Air Force Academy Hyderabad, Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai for Men and Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai for Women.
As per the eligibility criteria of CDS (I) 2016, you need to have qualified the Bachelor’s degree programme in different disciplines as per your choice of course and should not be greater than 22 years of age.
You need to apply for CDS (I) 2016 between November 7 and December 4, 2015 in online mode, wherein you will have to remit an application fee of Rs. 200.
CDS (I) 2016 shall be conducted on February 14 at as many as 40 exam centres in India. The test shall be offline mode comprising as many as 300 questions for all courses except OTA. Those applying for OTA will need to answer a maximum of 200 questions.
Each question shall carry 1 mark. UPSC also follows a negative marking policy under which 0.33 marks shall be deducted for wrong answers marked in the offline paper of CDS (I) 2016.
The offline paper of CDS (I) 2016 shall comprise questions from the following sections – English, general Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics wherein each section shall have a maximum of 100 questions.

Through CDS exam, both men and women cadets are recruited for the rank of Officer only.
But women candidates get Short Service Commission after clearing the exam, SSB and Medicals.

Through CDS female are eligible to eligible for Officer's Training Academy (OTA) only.Women candidates are not eligible for AFA, INA and IMA through CDS.However, if you wish you join in Indian Air Force in Flying Branch the you must appear in AFCAT.The eligibility criteria is that a candidate must have passed three years graduation in any discipline with atleast 60% aggregate or 4 year B.E/B.tech with atleast 60% aggregate from a recognized board or university.Must have passed 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics with atleast 60% aggregate.Age limit is 20-24 years.Candidates in final year are also eligible to apply but they must fulfill the eligibility criteria.
As per the latest eligibility criteria of CDS 2020, the candidates between 20 to 24 years are eligible to give this exam.
You are 21 now and you are going to be of 24 years on 11 July 2023 so you are eligible for the respective exam in each and every course ranging from IMA to OTA.
