i have just passed class 12 with science stream now i want to crack upsc ias which course i choose ba or bsc i am interested in both courses

Papeya Dubey Student Expert 27th May, 2020
Hello,

Eligibility criteria for UPSC is passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you need to be 21 years old and can apply even in final year, you can pursue any degree program,  but as UPSC is more humanities oriented so if you have inclination towards arts subject you can go ahead with this choice, it'll make your foundation strong, you'll be well acquainted with the subjects, hence the effort to start afresh won't be there say in case of other streams where they have to go through the basics in fresh manner because they haven't studied the subjects at intermediate/graduation level.

i am just passed 12thclass from science stream i want to crack upsc for ias now i do ba or bsc

Aditya Kumar Student Expert 27th May, 2020

Hi,

You can choose any of BA or BSc based on your interest for your graduation,

This is because,
To be eligible for UPSC or the IAS examination there is no compulsion to be a graduate in a particular subject, all you need to be eligible is that you should be a graduate in any discipline so you can choose either of Bsc or BA for your graduation

But yes if you are interested in Arts then choosing BA can be really helpful for your UPSC or the IAS examination, this is because in Arts you will be learning subjects like history , polity etc which are a part of the UPSC syllabus so it will help you in your upsc examination.

Thankyou

Hello.
In order to become an IAS officer you will have to pass civil services examination conducted by UPSC, now if it is about highest post then I would like to inform you that you directly cannot take on the highest post, the highest post of an IAS officer in a state is chief secretary while in the top level cabinet secretary of the union comes, this post will be given to you after many promotions in the beginning level you will be posted with the common tags then after some promotion your post will be incremented, in order to be at the post of general secretary of union there are various options one may be the direct choice of prime minister and other includes your your experience so you need to have at least 12 year experience of working as a DM.

Hi sir/madam, I did a practical course(2yrs), its not a degree course..... I am interested to study IAS... If I do correspondence degree course is eligible for IAS exam.....if eligible, which course i will select....please answer me please....

Papeya Dubey Student Expert 24th May, 2020

Hello,

Eligibility for UPSC is passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you can apply even in the final year, there's no minimum aggregate required for this, UPSC is more humanities oriented if you have inclination towards arts stream then you can choose subjects like political science, public administration, geography, history etc to name a few, it entirely depends on your interest in which field you want to apply, having any of this subject will also have an added advantage when it comes to choosing optional in the exam, you can also consider going through the entire list of optional subjects to choose your subject.

Eventually, it doesn't matter which stream you're from, the reason being UPSC allows people from diverse backgrounds to appear for this exam and even those selected candidates belong to varied streams like arts, science, engineering, medical etc what matters is your strategy and planning.
