Number of PapersUPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 Exam comprises two papers of General Studies (GS), i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Number of Questions – The two papers consist of 400 questions in total, where each paper has 200 questions.

 

Total Marks – The total marks allotted to UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 Exam is 400, both the papers are of 200 marks.

 

Marks Distribution – Each question of UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 Exam carries one mark.

 

Marking Scheme – Each correct answer will be awarded one mark and for every incorrect response one-third marks will be deducted from the total scored marks.

Exam Mode – The Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015 of UPSC will be conducted in offline mode on the scheduled date.

Exam Timing and DurationUPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015 is expected to begin at 9:30 am on August 23. While the Paper I is a two hours paper, ending at 11:30 am; the Paper II beginning at 2:30 pm and ending at 4:30 pm is two hours paper. In between the two papers, candidates will be provided three hours lunch-break. Therefore, the Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2015 of UPSC will be of 7 hours including 3 hours of break in between.

UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2015 Syllabus – Candidates appearing for UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 Exam need to go through the syllabus of the exam as given below –

Paper I – General Studies

  • Current events of national and international importance

  • History of India and Indian National Movement

  • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World

  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy Rights Issues, etc

  • Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc

  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization

  • General Science

Paper I – General Studies

  • Comprehension

  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills

  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability

  • Decision-making and problem solving

  • General mental ability

  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. Class X level)

UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 Exam Modalities – Candidates can check below the modalities of UPSC CSP 2015 for details of the civil services preliminary exam of UPSC –

  • UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015 is an offline mode paper, comprising a total of 400 questions of 400 marks

  • Each of the paper of UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 Exam is of two hours

  • However, the candidates will be required to report at the exam centre at most 30 minutes before the commencement of exam, i.e.; by 9:00 am on August 23, 2015

  • Candidates need to bring black ball point pen to their respective examination centres for attempting the questions of UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015

  • Candidates need to mark the appropriate answer among the four given against each question of UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015

  • If in any case, the candidate marks more than one answer, it’ll be regarded wrong, even if one of the marked responses is correct and negative marking will be applicable to the very question(s)

  • UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015 Result will be declared tentatively in the month of October

  • The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will be declaring cutoff marks for UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 for screening in of candidates for UPSC CS Mains 2015

  • The candidates who will be clearing the cutoff marks of UPSC CSP 2015, will only be eligible for UPSC Civil Services Mains 2015 Exam

  • UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2015 is only for screening purpose and the marks secured by candidates will not be added or counted in the total marks for determining the final merit list of UPSC Civil Services Exam 2015

  • The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for Civil Service (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in CSAT paper (Paper- II) of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the Commission

  • It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. In case, the candidate does not appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelims) Examination, he/she will be disqualified.
